ST Helen’s Year 6 Choir at Barry Friends and Neighbours event Wednesday 18th May 2016
The school choir had been asked by Gaye Fifield – who runs the Barry Friends and Neighbours group – it the school choir could come and perform at the groups event on Wednesday 18th May. It was the year 6 choir who were available and around 20 of them were present to perform.
I usually work with the Cardiff YMCA staff choir on Wednesday afternoons but managed to find great cover – (Mary Anne Roberts – wonderful singer of music from Trinidad plus her amazing – beautiful- cutting edge but ancient Welsh singing with Bragod – so YMCA were in for a treat!)
We arrived at Beryl Road Pioneer Hall just as the pensioners were finishing their fish and chip lunch!
It was quite a large hall but this did not daunt the children at all.
They sang a mix of their repertoire – some modern pop some ancient Hawaiian blessings and human rights songs – many of which the lovely audience could join in with. We did end our set with a singalong – and actually I was VERY pleased and impressed with the singing of the Friends and Neighbours as they joined in in harmonies much of the time!
The Friends and Neighbors did a collection between them to give a donation to the school to show their appreciation for the singing and we even had a card from Gaye with lovely comments…..
“On behalf of Friends and Neighbours Members and Volunteers I would like to thank all the children who sang so beautifully at their Fish and Chip Lunch.
We were all very moved by the songs chosen and how talented they all are. They showed how much they enjoyed singing with their lovely smiling faces. I t was great to see the integrating of the young and old. We wish them well for Richard Gwyn. I hope that maybe the choir could come again. I am so pleased you were able to come. Hope they enjoyed the squash and biscuits
