Thanks to Jonathan and Aimee for the pictures!
I was asked if any of my choirs could sing by a Big Issue seller in Cardiff as part of a “Volunteer Cardiff” event to help raise awareness of “volunteering’ plus the “Big Issue and it’s sellers. Myself and the choirs really fancied doing some flash mobbing in the city centre – so it worked a treat! A slight issue at the start when I realized that I had told the choir different starting locations – all ironed out fairly smoothly – I think…. There were around 40 + singers at the first “Flash” and lots of passers by stopped to listen and join in. We did around 4 – 5 Flashes around various Big Issue sellers on the Hayes to great effect and fun! When the weather turned – a suggestion was made to sing “Singing in the Rain” so we all headed to shelter singing this happily! We did our last set as a choir – no element of surprise – slightly unusual format of the basses and tenors on each outer edge – which gave a lovely stereo ish sound of harmony surrounding the melodies.
Great turn out from 3 choirs – Cardiff Canton Singers, Chapter Singers and The Porthkerry Community Choir of Barry – huge thanks!
Hopefully a few more “Big Issues” were sold that day! The sellers were absolutely lovely and friendly – a couple joined in with us too – with great voices!
